Tesla CEO TSLA Elon Musk has an explanation for Consumer Reports' findings that the Model S is unreliable: that was just the older cars.

Musk took to Twitter TWTR to defend his company Wednesday after the publication rescinded its recommendation for the Model S based on consumer surveys about reliability. Survey respondents noted issues with the Model S's drivetrain, charging equipment and computerized center console, among other issues.

On Twitter, Musk said: "Consumer Reports reliability survey includes a lot of early production cars. Already addressed in new cars." He also noted that Consumer Reports had found that 97% of Tesla owners expect their next car to be from the company, denoting a high satisfaction rate.

Tesla's stock dropped 9% following the Consumer Reports update.
